Really not sure why, but the memory of reading Peeling the Onion by Wendy Orr as a teenager burst back into my mind just now. I don’t remember too much of the plot, only that it’s about a girl who gets into a car accident and endures a long and painful recovery and also (spoiler) ends the novel with a different boyf than she started with. Also that it takes place in Australia. I got the book from the library, even though it doesn’t seem to have a US publisher? Which is pretty impressive, for it to have made its way over here like that.
What’s weird is that Peeling the Onion might be the only true young adult novel of the modern spirit (as opposed to, like, Sweet Valley High or whatever) that I actually read as a teenager? That doesn’t feel right, but I think it might be.
